Karyn Hopper - Children's author in Hawaii

About Karyn

Karyn is a children’s author based on Oʻahu, where she lives with her husband and their four children. Originally from New Hampshire, she attended college in South Carolina before making Hawaiʻi her home.

A lifelong lover of stories, Karyn spent years reading aloud to her children before beginning to write her own. While expecting her third child, she wrote her debut book, There’s a Monster in My ʻŌpū, followed by Malia in Hawaii and Holo Holo Slipper. Her stories are inspired by family life, imagination, and the beauty of island culture.

When she’s not writing, Karyn enjoys beach days, hiking, traveling, board games, coffee with friends, and playing the piano. She also teaches Grammar and Composition to seventh graders and has directed several elementary and high school productions.
